This morning McKean Park Lawyers hosted a seminar titled Cyber Fraud, Data Breach and Data Security: What can go wrong, will go wrong. The presentation revolved around the Cyber Fraud aspect, covering the common ways that an email becomes compromised. Including how the perpetrator gathers information on how the victim speaks and operates and the way they leverage this information.
Unlike some of the previous Cyber related events I have been to before, there was less focus on the ramifications of an incident. Instead this seminar focused on some of the ways these crimes are performed. From simple things like using forwarding rules to access emails through to how passwords are broken down.
The attendees came from a variety of industries, including Insurance Brokering, Real Estate and Legal Practices.
The space was a re-purposed board room it seemed, affording significant space to mingle before and after the seminar, while still allowing enough room to be comfortable when seated. The food provided by McKean Park was very tasty, with a wide selection of savoury pastries and rolls, my personal favourite was the breakfast pie.
Overall the event was a good insight into how cyber-criminals leverage the systems in place to capitalise on breaches in Cyber Security.
