This evening DWM Solutions held an event titled Optimising Your Business Through Technology and Culture. Held at The Larwill Studio the event was aimed at arming attendees with the right knowledge when it comes to IT Systems and Security, alongside how to adapt Business Culture to help foster a productive environment.
The attendees were from a variety of industries, from education through to hospitality. The majority of the attendees were either from DWM or had a connection with DWM.
DWM Solutions provided a hands on look at how efficient systems and a positive work environment can foster productivity and business success. DWM also sought to educate the attendees about Cyber Security and prevention of catastrophic data loss. Sophos, an international Cyber Security firm, specialising in Threat Detection and Prevention presented on cyber-crime. The presenter from Sophos was very informative, providing a variety of facts and anecdotes on how a data breach can occur and how common they are.
A presentation was also delivered by Datto, who specialise in the prevention of catastrophic data loss. Datto operate on an isolated data back-up system. Their systems run independently of a businesses systems, so that if an attack or disaster occurs a back-up can be available almost instantaneously. To demonstrate their product the Datto presenters backed up the laptop that was running the presentation for the evening. Don’t worry it was a used laptop! Then they proceeded to have an audience member demolish the laptop with a hammer. Once destroyed Datto demonstrated the steps it takes to recover and run, via a virtual desktop, the backup.
All in all the presentation had a certain Shock-and-Awe factor to it, alarming the audience with how prevalent Cyber-attacks like Ransom-ware are. Combined with the physical demonstration from Datto, the presentation was fascinating.
The catering by The Larwill Studio was also top notch, offering a variety of finger food and beverages to satisfy any taste. The space was interesting in its own right, with a selection of artwork by a number of different artists.
Overall the event was good, an insightful presentation on various methods of securing your information and mitigating the effects of data loss. I would attend more events held by DWM.
